This is a collection of postcards depicting the aftermath of the Senghenydd disaster of October 14, 1913. They were taken by W. Benton, a photographer from Glasgow, in the days following the explosion at the Universal Colliery which killed 439 miners. Each postcard was hand captioned on the original negative, and numbered 1 through 25. This collection is now complete with the kind help in October 2011 of Carole Adamson of New Zealand who provided me with the final 4 postcards of the set. Still very much a mystery is the tale of the man behind the camera, Mr., or Mrs (?) Benton. If you know anything about the photographer, please let me know.
